Sallets of this kind were worn throughout Europe and became very popular, as they offered an optimal field of vision and hearing, unlike the fully closed sallet. They are depicted, for example, on the silver altarpiece of Pistoia. From around 1419, this style of sallet was also worn in France, then from 1425 in Germany and Austria, and by 1431 in England.
