Baumard, Quarts Chaume

Baumard, Quarts ChaumeThis has a very powerful, concentrated core of almond, white peach, honeysuckle, mineral and candied lemon peel, but all is meshed perfectly together on a creamy, porcelain texture and glides effortlessly through the finish. Extremely long and finely detailed. A worthy rival to the slightly purer '02. Best from 2007 through 2030. 1,250 cases made. JM

There is a beguiling purity to the refined mouth feel to the delineated middle weight flavors thanks to the abundant dry extract and fine-grained tannins that mold the mineral-inflected finish

The 2002 Pierre Peters Special Cuvée Les Chetillons was rich

rich and long

Great balance here and this should age beautifully

Not flashy but very pleasing

~25% new wood

The finish is sleek and long

but still in a distinctly fruity style

(from vines in the southwest portion of the commune that includes some declassified 1ers from Les Baudes and Fuées)

although Cabernet Sauvignon struggled to achieve full ripeness

The wine is bold and bright
