SOLD……A cut glass lavender water / lachrymose bottle. 19thcA long facet cut glass bottle with a flattened round stopper and gold highlighting. There was revival in the 19th century particularly in America of an old ritual where a widows tears were caught in a bottle and then tipped on the husband's grave on the anniversary of the death. These bottles are therefore called Lachrymose or Tear Catcher Bottles in America but, less romantically, Oxford Lavender Water bottles in the UK. c1830 It is in good

A good Tunbridge Ware tape measure with star inlaid top and turned stick ware barrel

The gilded cap screws on and has a cork lining

An engraved pearl needle case in the form of a book

It has a clip fastening engraved with the original owner's initials MR and has the Dutch silver dagger mark at the base

Four of the chains end in silver coins all with the date of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887

Bowls 3 x 1

The studs and pin are in excellent order and the outer box is in good order

This date may be the presentation date as this style of work is earlier- circa 1830

These are two small plaques which came with a lot of 19th century letter seals

The end cap is set with an uncut oval of cornelian

27mm in diameter

There are no maker's or silver marks but it is English silver and dates to circa 1830
