Fritza Riedler by Gustav Klimt Canvas PrintBefore anyone mentions Vienna Secession, notice what the warm terracotta does to plaster. The wall behind it warms a half shade, and the cream and gold in the dress pick up the woodwork. Hang it eye level above a console, sideboard or low bookcase in a living room, study or wide hallway. Pair it with velvet or linen upholstery, walnut timber and a little aged brass. Keep nearby walls quiet a chalky off white or muted clay tone lets the portrait sit

and lifts neutral rooms that have started to feel flat

blocky black type on warm cream — the joke does all the heavy lifting

it keeps the painterly edges crisp

Keep neighbouring walls calm — avoid busy gallery clusters of other travel posters right beside it

without going full grotto

The black grounds the wall while the red lipstick and rose carry the eye

Plain off-white walls let the typography do the work

with the option of a real wood frame for a more finished finish

Don't crowd it with busy florals or other strong figurative pieces — this one wants room to breathe

or at the turn of a hallway where you want a smile on the way past

and the slice of blue sea pulls the eye through the window

or on the wall the small humans see first thing in the morning
