I’ve always liked drawing skulls and skeletons but most of the time I’ve drawn them in art classes as studies or practice for other drawings

Not every death is explained

So I decided to do a little art therapy and draw a flamingo in my style of drawing

So I decided to make this piece a distinctly Florida turtle

And at the time I had just drawn a few flamingos for my day job and had flamingos on the brain

In my previous turtle drawing "The Earth Builder" I did a combination of African and Australian tribal patterns

My idea for this piece was as much about drawing a bunch of pebbles and tree bark as it was about drawing a skeleton

I wanted to show a high contrast of light and dark but I also wanted a contrast between organic and non-organic textures

This piece grew from a logo I did for a company in Orlando

Each piece is 12" wide x 36" tall
