Leonard 40H fly rod 8' 2/2 #7A nice Leonard 40H 7 fly rod, 8', 2 piece, 2 tip, built for a #7 line. Serial #1943. 4 3 8 oz with a medium fast action. Although the grip is discolored, the rest of the rod is in exceptional condition, just a tiny amount of brassing to the ferrules. The varnish is in good condition and typical of the period. Wrapped in 326 red with bands of purple and red at the keeper and male ferrules. Keeper 1 flat right. The serial # is lettered 1 flat left on

Unknown wood matches the dark flamed cane

This is a once in two or three generations find as it appears to be the only specimen known

All sections are straight and ferrule fits are good

with a 6wt line and backing

All the hallmarks are there - thin cigar grip and the mortised curly maple seat with the Leonard cap and ring of the period
